Will you be attending the 2014 Museums and the Web conference in Baltimore April 2-5? If so, consider attending Archive-It Partner Specialist Lori Donovan’s workshop, “Untangling the Web: How Museums Can Enhance Collections Through Web Archiving”.

Description of the Workshop:
The focus of this half-day workshop will be on archiving web content created by or of interest to museums to fulfill their mission and meet their goals. Most museums put a great deal of effort into establishing a dynamic and engaging web presence for their institution, as well as collecting and exhibiting physical objects.  However many are not currently preserving their web presence as it evolves over time and/or making accessible web content related to their institution’s mission and existing collections. This workshop will be geared towards those new to web archiving and will provide a comprehensive overview of the topic, including: specific museum use cases, discuss best practices, lessons learned, challenges and successes and provide hands-on experience of the full web archiving lifecycle – from selection to capture to access using Archive-It, a web archiving service from the Internet Archive. The workshop will draw from the Internet Archive’s experiences as leaders in the web archiving community, as well as current literature in the field, and incorporate compelling examples from our numerous museum and art library Archive-It partners who have incorporated web archiving into their collecting programs.
